They will ask for your passport
Every Spanish hotel takes your passport or ID at check-in and may hold it for a few minutes. This is neither suspicion nor an old habit: accommodation providers are legally required to register their guests with the police, and the rule covers hotels, guesthouses, campsites and short-term rentals alike. Hand it over without concern and you will get it straight back. The other thing to expect is the floor numbering — a room on the primer piso is one flight above street level, not on it, which matters when you are carrying a suitcase.
