The prescription is on your card
Spain runs prescriptions electronically. The doctor issues a receta into the system and it attaches to your health card rather than to a piece of paper: you go to any pharmacy in the region, hand over the card, and they can see what you are due and how many repeats are left. Antibiotics require a prescription and pharmacists will not sell them without one, which is enforced rather than nominal. Prescribed medicine is subsidized on a sliding scale, so you pay a share of the price rather than all of it.
