元気ですか is not small talk
Textbooks give お元気ですか as the equivalent of how are you, and it is not. It asks a real question, and it belongs after an absence — meeting someone you have not seen for months, or opening a letter. Asked daily it would be strange. The everyday greetings are おはようございます, こんにちは and, at work, お疲れ様です, none of which expects an account of your health. Yuki asking Mori here is appropriate precisely because two years have gone by.
