The end of the fiscal year
Japan's fiscal year runs from April to March, and March is a month of endings: final reports, closing budgets, staff transfers, graduations and farewells. A 地域おこし協力隊 member often gives a public report on the year's activities, sometimes to the council and sometimes, as here, to residents at a community hall. Such reports follow a familiar shape: thanks for attending, a summary (総括) of results with figures, an honest account of problems and what was learned, plans for the next fiscal year, and a closing formula — 以上をもちまして…ご清聴ありがとうございました. Questions from residents can be blunt, and a cooperator who answers them directly often earns more trust than one with impressive numbers. The grammar of this lesson is the grammar of a formal report: といったところだ, にほかならない, 次第です, に即して and をもちまして.
