Saturday evening. Alex, Yuki and Kenji order dinner after the film.
Staff speak a more formal register than customers: 三名様 for 'three people', かしこまりました for 'certainly'. You are not expected to use these words back — recognising them is enough.
How do I read these pronunciations? See the pronunciation guide.
1. …にします — I'll have
The standard way to choose from a menu or a set of options: 魚にします, ステーキにします. It is a decision between alternatives, which is why it is に and not を.
2. …てください — please do, revisited
Lesson 3 used this for directions; here it asks for service: 見せてください, 待ってください. Same shape, a verb in its て-form plus ください, and equally polite in both settings.
3. Putting a reason in front
から from Lesson 9 links the reason to what follows, all in one sentence: 肉が好きですから、ステーキにします. The reason comes first, then the decision — the reverse of the usual English order.
4. Adjectives in front of nouns
Everything from Lessons 5 and 6 comes together here. い-adjectives attach directly — 辛い料理, 安いトマト — while な-adjectives need their な: 静かな店, 有名な店.

No tipping, and the tray
Nobody tips in Japan. Money left on a table will produce a server chasing you down the street to return it, and there is no situation in a restaurant, a taxi or a hotel where a tip is expected or welcome. Payment happens at a register by the door rather than at the table, and cash goes onto the small tray provided rather than into a hand. The meal is bracketed by two set phrases, いただきます before and ごちそうさまでした after, and both are worth using.
