Six months, and the thing that actually changed
The measure of this block is in the last two lines, and it is not the job or the contract. Alex writes a formal email without copying the formula, and recognises that six months ago he did not know the formula existed. That is what learning a professional register looks like from inside: not fluency arriving, but a set of slots becoming available — Gentile, in riferimento a, Le sarei grato se, resto in attesa — and then being filled without deliberation. Two smaller things are worth noticing. Serra's criticism from lesson 77 reappears in one clause — aspetta troppo — and Nadia guesses it before being told, which is how feedback actually circulates in a small office and why Serra was right to say it plainly. And the union settlement closes the thread lesson 73 opened, with the official admitting he would not have bet on it either: l'assemblea è rimasta compatta, e quello è l'unico argomento che la controparte capisce. Block C leaves all of this behind. Alex has a permanent contract, a flat with roots in it and an appraisal on file — which is exactly the point at which lesson 52's instruction, go and meet the other Italies, becomes possible rather than aspirational.
