Museums are free if you are under 26
French national museums — the Louvre, Orsay, Versailles and many more — admit under-26s free on production of ID, provided they are resident in the EU. Many municipal museums go further and admit everyone free all the time. Beyond that, a good number of national sites are free to everyone on the first Sunday of the month, which is popular enough that arriving early matters. A tourist office holds the current rules for its area and will tell you plainly which local sites are worth the entry fee, a question they are well used to.
