Restaurants must be able to tell you
Since 2015 French restaurants have been legally required to inform customers about the fourteen major allergens in what they serve, either in writing or by displaying a notice saying the information is available on request. Asking is therefore not an imposition; it is a question the kitchen is obliged to answer. Nut allergies are understood and taken seriously. The other label worth knowing is fait maison, a regulated logo marking a dish genuinely made on the premises from raw ingredients — which also means the kitchen knows exactly what went into it.
