Brittany has its own language
Brittany is the part of France most likely to correct you about being part of France. Breton is a Celtic language, closer to Welsh than to French, still taught in Diwan immersion schools and visible on bilingual road signs across the west. The region has its own flag, the Gwenn-ha-du, its own festivals, and music that sounds nothing like the rest of the country. Regional identity this strong is not unique — Corsica, the Basque country and Alsace each have a version of it — but Brittany is usually where a visitor meets it first.
