Lunch is at the 食堂
Most Chinese workplaces of any size have a 食堂, a canteen, and lunch there is the default rather than a fallback. It is heavily subsidized, often costing a few yuan, served early — the line forms before noon — and eaten with colleagues rather than at a desk. Plenty of people bring a 饭盒 instead and heat it in the office microwave. Either way the midday meal is a fixed communal event, and going out alone to a restaurant every day would read as slightly odd rather than as independent.
