Four exams to get a license
A Chinese driving license takes four separate tests, known simply as subjects one through four. Subject one is a theory exam drawn from a public bank of around a thousand questions that candidates grind through on an app. Two is off-road maneuvers, including a reverse into a marked bay. Three is on the road, and four a second written paper on safety. The whole thing runs to months at a driving school, and new drivers carry a 实习 sticker for a year afterward. Foreign licenses are not recognized, so residents sit it too.
