Festival applications
Film festivals usually ask for a short synopsis, a director's statement, stills, running time, languages and a screening link, often with a strict word or character limit. Selection committees read hundreds or thousands of entries, so a synopsis has to say in a few lines who the film follows and what is at stake. Premiere status matters. Many festivals want world, international or national premieres, and they define what counts as a public screening — ticket sales, online release or earlier festival screenings can all affect it. A private screening for the people in the film is generally not counted, but applicants are wise to say so plainly. Entry fees, deadlines and rules differ between festivals, and first-time filmmakers often apply to several at once.
