Every town has its week
Every Spanish town has fiestas patronales, days given over to its patron saint, and they are the fixed point of the local year. The famous ones — the running of the bulls at San Fermín, the tomato fight at Buñol — are just the versions that got noticed abroad. The usual form is a week of processions, an outdoor stage, bands, a funfair and meals eaten in the street, organized by peñas: member clubs that run the events and keep the cooking going. People spend vacation days to be there.
