Fourteen payments, not twelve
A Spanish salary is normally quoted as an annual figure paid in catorce pagas — fourteen payments. The two extra ones, the pagas extra, land in July and at Christmas, so an advertised salary divides by fourteen rather than twelve to give the monthly amount, and anyone dividing by twelve will be disappointed. Some employers spread it over twelve instead, so ask which. The other thing to weigh is the horario: many companies move to a jornada intensiva over the summer, finishing in the early afternoon, which is worth real money in daylight.
