Disagreeing without saying so
そうは思いません — I don't think so — is grammatically simple and socially heavy. In most Japanese conversation disagreement comes wrapped: そうですね, まあ, followed by a but; or 難しいかもしれません, it might be difficult; or a restatement of the other view before a quiet qualification. Blunt contradiction is reserved for people who know each other well or for arguments that are meant to be arguments. Among friends over a film, as here, the blunt form is fine and slightly playful.
