Municipal social media
Many Japanese municipalities run official accounts on Instagram, X, LINE and YouTube, and regional revitalization cooperators are often the ones posting. Accounts that do well tend to show the town as it is — local people, seasonal work, small failures — rather than polished brochure images. Official accounts also face 炎上, a burst of online criticism, and posts may need approval inside the town office, which can make captions cautious and stiff. Showing a resident's face online normally needs their consent; Japan recognizes a person's right over the use of their image (肖像権), and many towns ask permission in writing. The grammar of this lesson is the grammar of impressions and tone: っぽい, げ, 気味, かのように and をこめて.
