Nobody leaves without a pot
Leaving a French workplace means a pot de départ. Someone books a room or clears a corner of the office, a colleague collects for a present, there is something sparkling and something to eat, and the person leaving is expected to say a few words. The same ritual marks arrivals, birthdays and promotions, and skipping your own is noticed. The phrase to have ready is bonne continuation — good luck with what comes next — which is what you say to someone moving on, rather than au revoir, which sounds abrupt by itself.
