Getting a license takes months
Learning to drive in France is a long and expensive undertaking rather than a summer's work. You sit the code, a theory exam on road rules, then take a legal minimum of twenty hours with an approved school, and the whole process commonly runs past a thousand euros and several months, with waits for test slots. New drivers then display an A disc on the back of the car for three years and keep to a lower speed limit. One rule worth learning early: priorité à droite still applies in places, giving traffic joining from the right the right of way.
