快递, and the parcel locker
China Post handles mail and parcels going abroad, but domestic packages move through 快递, a private courier industry running at a scale with no real comparison — tens of billions of parcels a year, next-day delivery as standard, and couriers on electric scooters everywhere. Deliveries usually land in a 快递柜, a bank of lockers in the compound, and a message gives you the code. Returns are correspondingly easy and often free, which is part of why online shopping took over so completely. Sending abroad still means the post office and a form.
