Why your map is wrong
Two things break foreign maps in China. Google Maps is not usable there, so navigation runs on Baidu Maps or Amap — both excellent, both in Chinese. And Chinese law requires published maps to use an offset coordinate system, GCJ-02, which shifts positions by a few hundred meters against raw GPS, so an app that has not corrected for it will place you confidently in the wrong street. Chinese apps handle the offset invisibly. When you are genuinely lost, the reliable method is to show someone the destination written down.
