Showing the film to its subjects
Many documentary makers show a rough cut to the people in the film before release. It gives subjects a chance to correct facts, to raise concerns about privacy or safety, and to say if they feel misrepresented; it also builds the trust that lets a film go out into the world. Screenings like this are often emotional: people see their own lives, neighbors and lost homes on a screen, sometimes for the first time. Practical feedback matters as much as feelings — a detail that should be blurred, a term outsiders will not understand, a date that needs checking. The film keeps its promise from lesson 109: residents see it first. 老孙's words — that the filmmakers meant it sincerely — are the response they had hoped for.
