Come in, Li Ming, and happy Lunar New Year, and don't worry about your shoes, because everyone takes them off at the door here. My mum has been cooking since this morning, so I hope you're hungry, because it's customary to eat far more than you should tonight. This is Darren from finance, who's been coming to our reunion dinner since we were at school together.
Darren
Happy New Year, Li Ming, and welcome, and please accept these, because it's customary to bring two mandarin oranges when you visit someone's home at New Year. In Cantonese the word sounds like gold, so you're basically wishing the family wealth, which my mother would say is the most practical wish there is. Always two, by the way, never one, because good things are meant to come in pairs.
