Reading a Spanish address
A Spanish address packs more into a line than an American one. Calle Mayor 12, 3º B means number 12, third floor, door B — and floors are counted above the ground one, which is the planta baja, so 3º is four flights up. Older buildings sometimes insert an entresuelo or a principal between them, adding more. Doors may be lettered or given as izquierda and derecha, left and right. The five-digit postal code encodes the province in its first two digits, which is why Madrid codes start 28 and Barcelona 08.
