Answering with an imperative
Spain does not answer the phone with hello. The standard is ¿Dígame? — literally "tell me" — or its shorter form ¿Diga?, and among friends simply ¿Sí?. It sounds abrupt translated and is not. The caller then identifies themselves immediately: soy Alex, not "it's Alex", because Spanish uses ser for identity. Business hours matter less here than in northern Europe, but the long lunch does: calling between two and four is calling during someone's meal, and the hours after ten at night are still ordinary for a call between friends.
