Two invitations to the same wedding
French weddings often invite at two levels, and the wording tells you which one you have. The faire-part, a printed card sent months ahead, may ask you to the ceremony and the meal, or only to the vin d'honneur — the drinks reception between the ceremony and dinner, to which a much wider circle is invited. Being asked to the vin d'honneur alone is not a slight. It is the normal way of including colleagues, neighbors and distant relatives in a day whose seated dinner is long and expensive.
