你气色不好 is a kindness
气色 — roughly the color and vitality of a face — is a real category in Chinese, and remarking on someone's is caring rather than rude. 你气色不好, your complexion isn't good, is said much as an English speaker might ask whether you have been sleeping, and it usually arrives with advice: drink hot water, sleep earlier, go easier on the chili. Health talk is an ordinary register of affection between colleagues and friends. The thermos of hot water with goji berries in it, affectionately mocked online, belongs to the same instinct.
